Ever Considered a Mini-Moon?

Smaller in scale but big on romance, a mini-moon can be every bit as memorable as the classic honeymoon – especially if it is organised for you from start to finish.

The era of the mini-moon is rising – a shorter, sweeter escape to mark your first trip as a married couple. It’s becoming an increasingly popular choice for our newlyweds. And we get it.

Planning a wedding can be a whirlwind and diving straight into the big honeymoon can feel overwhelming. You might prefer to savour the celebrations before taking on that dream-trip adventure. Maybe the budget needs a breather, giving you time to save for something extra special later. Or perhaps your ideal honeymoon spot isn’t quite in season yet and you’d rather wait for sunnier skies.

Whatever the reason, a mini-moon is the perfect in-between: a few blissful days away to unwind, reconnect and revel in the magic of “just married”. A chance to soak up the post-wedding glow without the cost, the jet lag or the stress of long-haul logistics.

And the best bit? When you let us take care of the details, all you need to do is turn up, switch off and enjoy every unforgettable moment.

To spark your imagination, we’ve handpicked a few short-haul escapes and UK hideaways that prove a mini-moon can be utterly out of this world.

1. Paris, France

Well, we have to kick off with the City of Love (don’t we?). First up, it’s just an hour-and-a-half flight away, or a few hours sitting back on the train from London, making it super easy to get to.

It’s a city that simply oozes romance. Days can be spent strolling hand-in-hand along the banks of the Seine, taking in all the sights. Lose yourself in the cobbled streets of the bohemian neighbourhood of Montmartre – making sure you take time to admire Le Mur des je t’aime (the I Love You Wall) and the whimsical domed Sacré-Cœur.

Meander through the parks (the Palais Royal, in the 1st arrondissement, is among our favourites); lose yourself in the art museums – Mona Lisa anyone?; or simply pull up a chair at a pavement cafe to snack on cheese and wine to watch the world wander by.

Paris is all about the views. One of the best (yet lesser-known) viewpoints (in our opinion) is from  the rooftop terrace of the Arc De Triomphe. With 360° views all over the city, including of the Eiffel Tower, it’s a perfect place to watch the sunset and the city lights spring to life.

If you want dinner with a view, we’d highly recommend L’Oiseau Blanc in the Peninsula Hotel (although it is pricey) or take in the sights while gliding down the Seine on a dinner cruise.

If time allows, hop on a train and head out of the city to visit the Palace of Versailles – especially if it’s springtime when the gardens are bursting with colour. Alternatively, visit the charming town of Giverny, once home to Monet.

Indeed, Paris is a picture-perfect city that’s full of flavour, panache and, of course, romance.

2. Venice, Italy

This floating city is truly like nowhere else on Earth. When you step out of Marco Polo Airport (after little more than a two-hour flight from the UK), you’ll board a speed boat and be whisked across the water to the island. It’s an unparalleled arrival that you’ll never forget.

One of the iconic, and most romantic, ways to explore Venice is on a gondola. Let your gondolier serenade you as he gently glides you through the labyrinth of canals, under hundreds of bridges and past the ornate ancient waterside houses whose balconies drip with flowers.

The other perfect way to explore, is to simply – and very easily – get lost. Wander from the grandeur of St Mark’s Square and venture into the tangled maze of narrow streets and alleyways to discover yet another charming piazza, courtyard, palatial palazzo or cathedral.

Venice is a living, breathing museum. Everywhere you turn is a photo moment.

As you explore, take time to pop into the many bacari (bars) to savour the cicchetti – the Venetian tapas. It’s a real adventure to see how many flavours and varieties you can taste. An organised cicchetti tour is often part of a cookery course when you’ll also be guided by a local chef through the markets to buy the fresh ingredients for your lesson – which often takes place in the chef’s own home or restaurant.

If time allows, take a water taxi to the neighbouring island of Murano to see its famous glass creations or to the island of Burano where the houses are painted in an explosion of colour.

Everything about Venice is magical and a mini-moon here will cast an unforgettably loving spell upon your married life.

3. Barcelona, Spain

This Catalan capital is the perfect marriage of city break and beach escape – a mini-moon that covers all bases.

At every turn Barcelona pulses with art, architecture, food and that unmistakable Catalan culture.

Start by wandering through the Gothic Quarter – all narrow lanes, hidden squares and cosy tapas bars. Grab a café con leche in a sun-dappled plaza and just people-watch (Barcelona’s national pastime).

Then, of course, there’s Gaudí – his masterpieces are scattered across the entire city. Taking centre stage is the unmistakable  La Sagrada Família, the fantastical and famously unfinished basilica of spires, turrets and intense frescoes. It’s utterly breathtaking inside, with sunlight pouring through its stained glass windows.

Stroll up Passeig de Gràcia to admire Gaudi’s other creations, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, then head up to Park Güell for those iconic mosaic benches and sweeping views over the city.

If you’re both foodies, Barcelona will have you swooning. Spend an afternoon grazing your way through La Boqueria Market on Las Ramblas, where fresh seafood, jamón ibérico and colourful fruit stalls are a feast for the senses.

For dinner, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Don’t miss Catalan specialities, like crema catalana or a seafood paella by the beach.

Speaking of the beach – the Barceloneta seafront is perfect for a sunset stroll or cocktail in a chic chiringuito. The three-mile stretch of sand is the playground for the locals and where city life takes on a more carefree vibe.

Barcelona’s beauty isn’t just in its landmarks, it’s in its rhythm – the late dinners, the lazy afternoons, the spontaneous joy in the air. Salud!

4. Marrakech, Morocco

For a mini-moon with an exotic edge, Marrakech is magical.

Just three-and-a-half hours from the UK, this ancient, rose-tinted city offers a heady blend of culture, colour and warmth that sweeps you up as soon as you arrive. Wander through the labyrinthine souks, where the scent of spices, leather and orange blossom fills the air. Every turn reveals a flash of bright textiles or intricate lanterns.

Pause for mint tea on a rooftop terrace overlooking the medina, the call to prayer echoing across the city as the sun dips behind the Atlas Mountains.

Days here might begin with a lazy breakfast in your riad courtyard, birds chirping, sunlight dancing across the tiles, before venturing out to explore the palaces and gardens that make Marrakech so unforgettable.

Lose yourselves in the serenity of Jardin Majorelle, Yves Saint Laurent’s cobalt-blue sanctuary, or take a day trip to the Atlas foothills for lunch in a Berber village. As evening falls, the city comes alive: the Djemaa el-Fna square hums with storytellers, musicians and sizzling food stalls, while hidden behind unmarked doors you’ll find candle-lit restaurants and intimate hammams where you can unwind together.

A mini-moon here is an intoxicating mix of adventure and indulgence, the perfect way to immerse yourselves in a new world, yet still have moments of peace, luxury and connection. It’s ideal for couples who crave something a little out-of-the-ordinary, wrapped in romance and desert sunshine.

5. Iceland

If you’re up for an adventure without venturing too far from the UK, Iceland is an unforgettable choice. Just a three-hour flight transports you to a land of otherworldly landscapes: steaming geothermal pools, thunderous waterfalls, black-sand beaches and rugged mountains rising dramatically from wide open plains.

This is a place where nature sets the scene and romance has a beautiful wildness to it.

Start your escape in Reykjavík, a colourful and compact capital where boutique hotels, cosy cafés and stylish bars invite you to unwind together after the whirlwind of your wedding celebrations.

Stroll around the harbour, ducking inside art galleries and sampling fresh seafood before returning to your hideaway for a nightcap.

For daytime adventures, you can explore the famed Golden Circle, stopping to feel the mist at Gullfoss waterfall, marvel at geysers erupting into chilly air and walk between tectonic plates at Þingvellir National Park.

Alternatively, head south to the coast where the roaring Atlantic meets dramatic black sands, giving you photos and memories that feel instantly cinematic.

Then there’s the thermal side of Iceland. Imagine sinking into warm, mineral-rich waters at the Blue Lagoon (or one of the many lesser-known hot springs), snow in the air and steam swirling around you.

And, of course, if you’re visiting in the right season (from October to April), there’s the chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Wrapped up in your warmest jackets, cuddle up and watch the night sky flicker with a kaleidoscope of colour. It’s a bucket-list moment made all the more incredible because you get to share it as newlyweds.

6. Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh is one of those cities that feels straight out of a storybook – cobbled streets, dramatic, hilltop castles and that irresistible mix of history and romance in the air. If you’re spending a few days here as newlyweds, you’re in for something truly special.

Start with the classics: wander up the Royal Mile, popping into quirky shops, whisky bars and cosy tearooms as you go. At the top, Edinburgh Castle looms in all its glory and is the perfect place to savour the sweeping views across the city.

But don’t stop there. Slip away from the crowds and climb Arthur’s Seat. It’s a bit of a hike, but the panoramic views at the summit are worth every step (and it’s pretty romantic watching the city sparkle below).

Then explore the elegant Georgian streets of the New Town and the affluent suburbs of Stockbridge, The Grange and West End, each full of chic boutiques and cocktail bars. You’ll definitely want to linger over a dram or two of local whisky or cosy up in a traditional pub with live folk music and a hearty bowl of Cullen skink (a deliciously creamy Scottish soup).

Culture lovers will adore the National Museum of Scotland and the Scottish National Gallery – both free and full of treasures. If you’re there in August, the Fringe Festival turns the city into one giant stage, with laughter, music and magic around every corner.

And when you need a little tranquillity, stroll through Princes Street Gardens or enjoy afternoon tea at The Balmoral hotel – a grand setting for a romantic toast to your adventure together.

Edinburgh isn’t just beautiful; it’s soulful, warm and full of little surprises.

Plus: 7. Your private treehouse, Wales

This one’s a quirky suggestion for a couple who really want to switch off, reconnect and spend time in nature.

Your mini-moon bolthole can be found deep in the Welsh forests, suspended 40ft up in the treetops in total isolation. Here you’ll find the most stunning, beautifully-designed treehouse, complete with log-burning stove and treetop hammock.

Think of it as a cosy loft apartment with open-plan living space of kitchen, lounge, double bedroom and ensuite bathroom – with toasty warm running water.

You’ll have your meals in the forest canopy with the birds, sitting on your outside deck.

This is true escapism. You’ll be living completely off-grid, with no electricity and zero phone signals here. Chances are you may not see another soul during your stay – unless that is you venture to the nearby pub or local village tea room. The area is also the perfect playground for hiking and mountain biking – with a soak in the hot tub your reward on your return to the forest home.

It’s the perfect place to reset after the wedding and an idyllic start to a totally stress-free married life.
